My art is an attempt to make manifest the unconscious phantasms of the soul, the experience behind 'reality' which in fact produces our sense of reality. The fertility of Nature is a primary theme, as well as beings that emerge out of and descend back into primordial, mythological Nature, the formlessness from which come all forms. Some of my pieces use 'found' material which heightens the sense of an ego-less intelligence in Nature directing the creative acts. These are magic images because they are alive with the forces, impulses and revolutions of nature, and therefore, they are connected with bees, hives, honey, flowers, pollen and pollination because like ambrosia, nectar of the gods, my art seeks to pollinate and sting the conscience into awakening with a swarm, an ecstasy. Nearly all of my images, or spirits, have a third, pineal eye which is the organ of perception for the 'inner sense' of the heart and the link to the spirit world, collective unconscious or hive mind. According to ancient wisdom (see Eros and Magic in the Renaissance) phantasms are the link between inner and outer, mind and matter, intellect and sensation, as well as past, present and future. Aristotle said, "There is no thought without a phantasm." The phantasm is integral to cognition, which is very different from our modern understanding of fantasy, as a modality of thought which is inherently false. My art seeks to reinvigorate this archaic, forbidden knowledge in the service of a mythological revolution.
